Why Byron Bay is so unique

Updated: Feb 18, 2019

Byron Bay is a melting pot of people from all walks of life and backgrounds. What draws most tourists to this area is the laid back and relaxed atmosphere, the beaches, the surf, its natural beauty, markets and many festivals as well as the healing that comes from taking some time out and enjoying what the most Easterly point of mainland Australia has to offer. Getting away from toll roads, traffic lights and highways, and hearing the waves break on the beach or listen to the birds sing instead is a pleasure for the senses and guarantees a relaxing break, whether for a day or a holiday.

It doesn't matter what you enjoy doing, be it a walk up to the lighthouse with whale watching, kayaking to see dolphins up close, taking a sunrise hot air balloon flight, going for a hike or walking along the endless golden beaches - Byron (as it is lovingly referred to by the locals) has something to offer for everyone.

You can hire bicycles, learn how to play a drum, rent a surf board and get lessons from champion surfers, browse through countless shops and galleries, indulge in the broad culinary offerings of the plethora of cafes, restaurants and eateries, explore the Hinterland rainforest and Mt Warning or if you are game learn circus tricks or even fly the trapeze.

Although, many come to Byron Bay for fun and action or to party and let loose, there are countless visitors who come here to relax and heal something or other and to have a healthy and loving lifestyle away from the sped-up pace of the city.

I moved here four years ago from New Zealand, a move I will never regret. I decided to set up Byron Mobile Massage, because I felt that although there were a good number of massage therapists in the Bay, I wanted to offer a service that really takes people’s individual needs into account. Anyone can do a short course and offer massages, but what makes Byron Mobile Massage different and unique is the exceptionally high standard of our professionally trained therapists. They are gentle and caring and treat clients with the utmost care and respect. And, going by our success and the positive feedback received, we must really hit a cord with people – tourists and locals alike.

For us, it is rewarding and beautiful to see how people that arrive fresh out of the city carrying much stress and holding much tension in their bodies, can gain so much relaxation from a massage or healing session.  Byron Mobile Massage caters to everyone’s specific needs, even offering services to small or large groups of people and best of all, we come to you! All you need to do is relax and enjoy, without having to drive anywhere.

We love to make you feel special and work with what you would like most, be it an organic facial,  a massage, manicure, Indian head massage, energetic facial release or reflexology. We also offer pregnancy, remedial, hot stone and relaxation massage - whichever suits you best. Once thoroughly relaxed, you can enjoy what Byron has to offer even the more...

Byron is a very creative place with lots of entertainment, from live music, street art and sunset drumming, to art galleries and sculpture exhibitions; writers, music and film festivals, to healing expos and theatre performances.  Often, you will hear buskers in the streets and while you are in town, make sure to check out the local markets. Thursday mornings is the local farmers market, which is a pleasure to go to, and a treat for your taste buds, while the monthly Sunday market offers a vast array of locally made arts and crafts, produce, jewellery, clothes and gifts. It’s a colourful experience for your all your senses with local musician playing tunes, a wide variety of culinary offerings, buskers and over 100 hundred  stalls offering different wares, it is definitely a ‘must do’ while in the Bay. There is also an artisan market held every Saturday from 4pm showcasing the area’s finest artists and designers.

Byron’s way of life allows people to simply be who they are and nurtures self-expression. You are accepted in the supermarket in your pyjamas and slippers as much as in fisherman’s pants, a pair of shorts or a suit. Even walking down the street in a bikini is considered normal.  Byron Bay allows you to relax, be yourself and let your hair down.

I think this is why so many people visit the area, of which many are compelled to move here, like I was.  In doing so, we perhaps choose lifestyle over making money or a life in the fast lane, however we get to rejoice in the beauty and serene lifestyle that is uniquely Byron - every day!

If you have not been to Byron Bay as yet, my question to you is.... well what are you waiting for?

And if you have been here, tell me, what is it about Byron Bay that you love?
